Cedi coin rejection spurs BoG warning nationwide — Jul 22, 2026The Bank of Ghana warned that refusing to accept cedi coins and notes in transactions is an offence punishable by up to three years in prison, a fine, or both, with enforcement by the police. It stressed that all coins in circulation remain legal tender (including pesewa, GH₵1 and GH₵2) and no trader can reject them, with ongoing enforcement and public reporting encouraged.
