55 Myanmar Schools Reopen; US Campuses Plan Returns
Schools in Hawaii and Myanmar have resumed in-person classes after repairs and cleanup following hurricane damage and flooding. Naalehu Elementary School reopened nearly two months after Hurricane Lala damaged its buildings, while 55 of 56 schools temporarily closed by flooding in Myanmar’s Tanintharyi Region have reopened. In New Jersey, Columbia High School was set to welcome students back after a water main break forced a two-day closure, and Carlisle Elementary in Iowa also reopened after a water main break disrupted its community. At Ardmore High School in Oklahoma, repairs to classrooms flooded by a heating and cooling system leak were nearing completion, with students expected to return to their regular schedule after fall break. These recoveries have involved water removal, building repairs and cleanup, with affected school communities adjusting to temporary learning arrangements while work was underway.
