AI reshapes shopping amid uneven consumer trust
AI is increasingly influencing retail from product discovery and comparison to promotions and purchasing: a Snipp survey found that many regular AI users have bought products based on recommendations, used AI to compare options, or sought discounts. Convenience-store shoppers also report widespread exposure to AI, especially at self-checkout, and many are open to personalized offers, though faster checkout and access to human help remain important. In online shopping, consumers remain wary of AI, citing privacy concerns and a preference for human product advice, but many will use AI support if they can reach a person when needed. Grocery retailers are using AI meal-planning assistants to recommend recipes and assemble baskets, with retailer-reported results suggesting the tools can increase basket size and ongoing engagement. In Japan, convenience-store chains are also using AI to brainstorm novel desserts and other products, while human specialists remain involved in development.
