Anglers, Students Catch, Teach, Rescue Across Communities
Early fall striped bass fishing is favoring boat anglers near New Jersey’s Shrewsbury Rocks, where fish are being caught with eels and large lures. Elsewhere, fishing is bringing people together for recreation and education: Australian primary school students learned angling skills and sustainable fishing, while a new college fishing club held its first tournament at Lake Michindoh. Conservation efforts also took center stage in Britain and Montana. Anglers in Keston, near Bromley, bought and operated pumps to add oxygen to a pond after fish and other aquatic life began struggling, while volunteers in Missoula rescued fish stranded in an irrigation ditch and returned them to the Clark Fork River.
