Arkansas suspends mowing in drought areas over wildfire risk
The Arkansas Department of Transportation is temporarily suspending fall roadside mowing in areas where severe or extreme drought raises wildfire risk. District engineers will use U.S. Drought Monitor data and local conditions to decide where work should pause, reassess affected areas regularly, and resume mowing when it is safe; crews will then use added precautions to reduce the chance of starting fires. Mowing normally runs from October through Thanksgiving, but the suspension may vary by location.
