Arts Students Showcase Talent Across Campuses
Universities and community groups are creating opportunities for students and emerging artists to perform, develop creative skills and explore arts careers. At Queens College, QCEI’s informal Unplugged talent show offered students a welcoming, no-audition setting to perform music, while Middle Tennessee State University’s Engage Fest combined student performances with hands-on production experience for aspiring recording-industry professionals. Monroe Community Media’s pilot Young Creators Media Lab helped middle schoolers produce short films or broadcasts, culminating in a showcase supported by sponsors and community donations. In Oregon, a student-organized summit connected high school artists with regional arts professionals to discuss career paths and opportunities, while University of Michigan-Flint graduate Taylor Boes illustrates one such path through her work as a stage manager and arts administration instructor.
