Modesto Crash Kills Driver; DUI Suspect Arrested
A suspected DUI crash on northbound Highway 99 near Carpenter Road in Modesto killed a 68-year-old GMC pickup driver Sunday evening. Investigators say a Chevrolet pickup driven by 22-year-old John Rojasnaranjo was traveling about 70 mph when he made an unsafe lane change and struck the GMC, causing it to overturn; its driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected and died at the scene. Rojasnaranjo and his passenger were uninjured. Rojasnaranjo was arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI causing injury or death, vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license; the crash temporarily shut down northbound Highway 99.
