Bloomington Man Charged With Murder After Front-Porch Shooting

A 24-year-old man died at a hospital Thursday night after being shot in the head on a front porch in the 1000 block of North Illinois Street in Bloomington on Oct. 8. Police say 23-year-old Jaymon Trey Gilreath approached the victim and another person, shot the victim, then walked away. Witnesses told investigators Gilreath believed the victim was dating his former girlfriend. Officers arrested Gilreath minutes after the shooting and booked him into the Monroe County Jail on a murder charge. Police recovered a 9 mm handgun along his route and believe it was used in the shooting. The shooting took place outside a residence on the front porch. Gilreath is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
