Bollywood actor Nana Patekar dies at 75
Nana Patekar died Oct. 8 at age 75 after going into cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. He was declared dead at 5:20 a.m. local time per ANI. Dr. Shekhar Salkar, chief of the oncology department at Manipal Hospital, said that despite 45 minutes of continuous CPR, he could not be revived. A medico-legal case was opened and an autopsy is to follow. Born Vishwanath Patekar in Murud-Janjira, Raigad district, Maharashtra, he studied at Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art in Mumbai and debuted in Gaman in 1978. His breakthrough was Parinda in 1989, winning a National Film Award and Filmfare for best supporting actor. He directed Prahaar: The Final Attack in 1991 with Madhuri Dixit, won the National Award for best actor for Krantiveer in 1994, and took a second National Award for Agni Sakshi in 1996. Contested: No disputes on the death facts appear in the record. Tanushree Dutta accused Patekar of harassing her; Mumbai police registered a case in 2018 and filed a closure report in 2019. Patekar denied the allegations. The autopsy remains pending.
