BYD cites geopolitics, delays US passenger-car entry
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li said geopolitical and regulatory uncertainty is the biggest obstacle to the Chinese automaker’s global expansion, making it difficult to plan investments with confidence. The company is holding off on selling passenger cars in the United States for now, though it continues other U.S. business activities. Li said BYD’s ambitions extend beyond vehicles to areas including energy storage and solar, and that it hopes to use industrial robots amid hiring challenges in China; she also described Nvidia as a strong chip partner. Despite the headwinds, BYD reported a 17% year-over-year rise in September global vehicle sales, while Li argued its Hong Kong-listed shares are undervalued.
