Canada Manufacturing PMI Falls to Six-Month Low
Canada’s manufacturing sector remained in expansion in September, but growth slowed to its weakest pace since March as the S&P Global PMI fell to 51.5 from 53 in August. Output continued to rise, though more slowly, while new orders weakened and export orders fell for a fourth consecutive month amid client caution over U.S.-Canada trade tensions and tariffs. High energy prices linked to the war in Iran, customs and border difficulties, and other supply-chain pressures contributed to longer delivery times and the sharpest input-cost inflation since mid-2022. The reports describe continued resilience, including hiring to support long-term contracts, but also flag declining business confidence and mounting strain on manufacturers.
