Charleston Town Center Mall Expected to Close 2027
Charleston Town Center’s remaining indoor stores are expected to close in late spring or early summer 2027, when leases expire, according to owner Hull Property Group. Mayor Amy Goodwin has said potential buyers may be interested, but Hull says it has received no sale or development proposal that has generated interest; earlier discussions about donating the property to the city for mixed-use redevelopment are no longer advancing. The mall opened in 1983 and once had more than 100 tenants, but its last department-store anchor, JCPenney, closed in 2025. Longtime shoppers expressed sadness and frustration, recalling the mall as a social hub and criticizing the lack of investment and the property’s current condition.
