Cobain’s Olympia Apartment Opens as Airbnb Rental
Kurt Cobain’s former apartment in a circa-1914 triplex on Pear Street in Olympia, Washington, is now available as a short-term Airbnb rental. Cobain lived there from 1989 to 1991, a creative period when he wrote much of Nirvana’s early material; the Olympia Historical Society estimates he wrote about 75% of his lifetime output there. The apartment is decorated with Nirvana photos and memorabilia and includes modern amenities, with nightly rates reported at roughly $250 to $300. Its history also includes the origin of the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” title, which followed Bikini Kill singer Kathleen Hanna writing the phrase on Cobain’s wall.
