Cities Plan Día de los Muertos Events With Altars and Performances
Día de los Muertos events in several U.S. communities will invite people to honor deceased loved ones through altars, performances and family activities. In El Paso, Destination El Paso is planning a three-weekend downtown celebration, including themed tributes to pets and other loved ones, photo displays and evening gatherings through Nov. 1. Lakewood Cultural Center will present the bilingual musical adventure “Sugar Skull!,” which uses Mexican folklore and the story of a girl reconnecting with her heritage to explore family, grief and remembrance. Philadelphia’s Penn Museum will host its annual CultureFest on Oct. 24, featuring a communal altar honoring choreographer Amalia Hernández, music, dance, bilingual storytelling and family activities.
