Descartes Introduces AI Agent Control Plane
Descartes Systems Group introduced its Agent Control Plane at its Innovation Forum in Chicago, a platform built on the Descartes Global Logistics Network to coordinate AI agents across supply-chain applications and trading partners. The system is intended to manage multistep workflows, connect shipment updates to actions elsewhere, and reduce manual follow-up and handoffs, while operating within customer-defined permissions, approval points and human oversight and keeping a traceable record of agent actions. In a demonstration, agents handled tasks across multiple companies and Descartes products, including compliance checks and disruption response, but escalated consequential decisions to people; a human rejected a rebooking option that offered savings but involved a carrier with a low trust score. Descartes says the platform can make its agents available through AI platforms customers already use and help teams respond to operational changes while keeping customer commitments on track.
