Dortmund extends Kovac contract through 2029
Borussia Dortmund has extended coach Niko Kovac’s contract through June 2029, retaining his assistants as well. Since taking over in spring 2025 with the team 11th in the Bundesliga, Kovac guided Dortmund to Champions League qualification and then a league runner-up finish. Club leaders cited the team’s development and Kovac’s impact as reasons to prioritize stability and continuity; his 2.15 points per Bundesliga match is the highest average by a Dortmund coach, according to the club. Kovac said he wants to build on the progress and keep improving the team.
