Bulgaria PM Says Drones Sank One of Two Black Sea Ships
Two ships were hit by drones off Bulgaria's Black Sea coast overnight into Oct. 13, 2026, and one sank, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said. The Maltese-flagged, Ukrainian-owned Chelsea 3 was hit by three drones about 18 nautical miles near Byala around 1:30 a.m.; border police rescued all 15 crew and five received treatment for minor injuries. A second ship sank 17 miles east of Krapets with one crew member rescued. It was the second such incident in a week after the Oct. 6 Alfa Watan sinking. Radev held an emergency Security Council meeting and televised address calling the attacks absolutely unacceptable. He said he would speak with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. Bulgaria lacks solid clear evidence to accuse either side, he said, but logic indicates the result benefits the Russian Federation, and he would summon Ambassador Mitrofanova. He said Bulgaria would continue to seek help to strengthen air and sea surveillance and response capabilities. Main sources reported five minor injuries on Chelsea 3 Who carried out the attacks remained unresolved.
