Vader Lightsaber Expected to Fetch $1 Million

A Darth Vader lightsaber used in the Cloud City duel in The Empire Strikes Back will headline Heritage Auctions' Ultimate Star Wars Auction on Nov. 12, expected to fetch at least $1 million. The prop also appeared in Return of the Jedi. In that duel Vader severs Luke Skywalker's hand and tells him he is his father. In July, Luke's lightsaber sold with a severed-hand prop for $3.75 million, the highest price for a Star Wars film prop according to the auction house. The November sale offers more than two dozen lightsabers from Episodes I through IX and other films and TV shows. Obi-Wan and Anakin sabers from Revenge of the Sith, used by Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, are expected at $10,000 or more each. Boba Fett's EE-3 carbine blaster from Empire is estimated above $100,000. Also included are a Yoda puppet hand Frank Oz used in Empire, Anthony Daniels' signed personal third-draft screenplay for the 1977 Star Wars, and a TIE Fighter pilot helmet from Rogue One. Coverage aligns on estimates and inventory. Outlets quote Vader's line as "I am your father" or "No, I am your father." The auction is set for Nov. 12.
