Evanescence Wins TCA, Earns Breeders' Cup Berth

Evanescence rallied from behind and caught pacesetter Praying in the final strides to win the Grade 2 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes at Keeneland. Jose Ortiz guided the 4-year-old Munnings filly around traffic and wide into the stretch, where she prevailed by roughly a half-length; Praying finished second, followed by Eclatant and Echo Sound. The victory kept Evanescence unbeaten in three starts at Keeneland and earned her an expenses-paid berth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint. Trainer Eddie Kenneally said the filly thrives at Keeneland and that the Breeders’ Cup race’s distance should suit her.
