Evans wins WRC title after Solberg crash
Elfyn Evans won his first World Rally Championship title after Oliver Solberg crashed two corners from the finish of the Rally Italia Sardegna finale. Evans entered the last round with a 21-point lead, but Solberg’s strong performance—and a puncture for Evans—made the championship come down to the final stage. The Welsh Toyota driver became the first British champion since Richard Burns in 2001 and the first Welshman to win the title. Evans said he had thought the championship was lost and expressed sympathy for Solberg.
