EXCLUSIVE: Viral Meme Mocking MAGA Hardliners Was Made By America First Conservative

A grotesque, beer-guzzling caricature created to mock unquestioning MAGA influencers has become an unlikely mascot in conservative corners of the internet, and the anonymous creator behind it is himself a conservative who considers himself “America First,” he revealed to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The creator of Forbidden HQ, a viral political satire account, spoke exclusively with the DCNF about the character widely known as “MAGAtard,” an exaggerated MAGA hardliner who reflexively rationalizes whatever new political talking point comes his way. The creator drew a distinction between the political principles he associates with America First and what he sees as an increasingly personality-driven MAGA culture — a divide that has become more visible as conservatives clash over issues including the Iran war.

“My values are conservative,” the creator, who was granted anonymity due to privacy concerns, told the DCNF.

The DCNF independently verified the creator’s identity.

“Forbidden HQ is, it’s mostly satire. It’s entertainment,” he told the DCNF. “We take politics, internet culture, memes, public figures, politicians, celebrities, and turn all of that into basically ridiculous cinematic worlds. Nobody’s really safe from it, whether it’s left, right, establishment, anti-establishment.”

“If there’s something funny there, and there’s a discussion around it, we’ll make fun of it,” he said.

In Forbidden HQ’s breakout video, the red-hatted character sits at his computer with a vacant grin, dutifully parroting defenses of everything from government surveillance and artificial intelligence data centers to the war in Iran.

The caption supplies the punchline: “Conservative Inc influencers after the group chat sends out the new talking points.”

The “MAGAtard” character was never supposed to represent every Trump voter, the creator told the DCNF.

“He’s a caricature. He’s intentionally absurd and exaggerated, and he’s what happens when an internet stereotype gets turned into, like, a recurring movie character,” he said. “He’s a fictional character, and that’s what makes him funny.”

The joke is aimed more narrowly at what the creator calls the online influencer class surrounding MAGA, particularly personalities he believes are willing to shift alongside the administration on issues ranging from the economy and tariffs to foreign policy.

“I’m absolutely America First to the core where I think, you know, Americans should always come first,” he said.

Trump built much of his political appeal by attacking the Republican establishment, questioning foreign wars and promising to “drain the swamp.” Forbidden HQ’s character targets what the creator sees as an establishment developing around the anti-establishment movement itself, complete with online personalities willing to defend the party line.

The creator’s videos repeatedly return to war, surveillance, Jeffrey Epstein, Israel, foreign lobbying and loyalty to Trump.

“I think it goes back to America First,” he said, arguing that “a lot of our elected officials put foreign governments, foreign-policy interests, and lobbying organizations before the American people.”

The running gag places MAGAtard in situations where a supporter might be expected to become angry with the government, only for the character to discover a reason to support what it is doing anyway.

The war in Iran provided one example of the tension Forbidden HQ targets. Trump faced opposition to the military campaign from prominent figures on the America First right after the U.S. launched Operation Epic Fury on Feb. 28, while other supporters rallied behind the administration’s case for the conflict.

Forbidden HQ’s character does not experience that internal debate. Whatever the administration does, he finds a way to support it.

Former MAGA influencer Ashley St. Clair alleged in a series of TikTok videos that prominent MAGA personalities were handed talking points from administration officials and congressional Republicans via private group chats.

St. Clair pointed to the online reaction following the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner as an example of what she alleged was coordinated messaging.

More than 100 right-wing influencers, politicians and commentators posted within roughly 24 hours about how the incident demonstrated the need for Trump’s proposed White House ballroom, according to a Washington Post analysis.

Then the people being mocked started claiming the character as their own.

Instead of rejecting the caricature, portions of the online MAGA world began treating the character as an ironic hero. The insult became a badge of honor, and the grotesque loyalist became something closer to a mascot.

“There are two ways I look at it. Part of me finds the commitment funny. But there’s also a serious point underneath the character,” the creator told the DCNF.

“For years, people on the right criticized the left for refusing to criticize its own side. The argument was basically: you don’t have to stop being a liberal to admit when your side is wrong.”

The creator said conservatives should hold themselves to the same standard.

“You can support Trump, be conservative, and still disagree with a war, complain about gas prices, demand transparency around Epstein, oppose an expanding surveillance state, or criticize the administration when you think it broke a promise,” he said.

“In fact, I think that’s healthy. Political commentators shouldn’t exist simply to validate politicians. If the people who elected an administration disagree with something it’s doing, they should be willing to say so publicly.”

Forbidden HQ does not limit that standard to MAGA.

The account has also turned its surreal style against the left. In “THE MAYOR,” Forbidden HQ mocked Democratic New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani as “a man of every principle, every position, every constituency, all at once.”

The response helped illustrate another part of the creator’s argument.

Some followers, he said, were happy when Forbidden HQ mocked Trump or Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. When the account went after Mamdani, some announced they were done with it.

“I don’t want you people following me in the first place if this is how you’re going to be,” he recalled thinking. “Because when I’m making fun of Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, you’re on board, but the second I make fun of the mayor of New York for being inconsistent and hypocritical, you want to get upset about it.”

“I’m pissing off both sides,” he said, “and there are people who appreciate that we’re willing to criticize everybody.”

Who gets mocked most can change with who holds power, he said. With Trump in the White House and conservatives controlling much of the federal government, the right supplies more material than it did during former President Joe Biden’s presidency.

“So it really depends on the current state we’re in,” he said.

Forbidden HQ’s creator also rejected the idea that describing the work as satire gives him license to do anything for a reaction.

“Satire and political commentary can absolutely coexist. Doxxing is different, and I don’t support it,” he said.

He described the account as a kind of “modern political cartoon,” where a point of view is unavoidable but cruelty is not the objective.

“My goal isn’t to add more division,” he said. “There’s already enough of that.”

“For me, the main line is that it has to work as satire. Even when the subject is serious, I’m not interested in mocking innocent victims or being gratuitously cruel. I want to make people think and laugh at the same time.”

He said there have been rare occasions when he decided a post crossed his own line and deleted it, even when it performed well.

“I don’t want the joke to cross over into being gratuitously personal or cruel,” he said.

The creator also said he believes political speech and satire should receive broad protections, including when they challenge powerful people or institutions.

“I believe very strongly in the First Amendment and in the broadest possible protection for political speech, satire, criticism, and controversial ideas,” he told the DCNF. “In America, people should be able to say what they believe, challenge powerful institutions, criticize public figures, and engage in uncomfortable conversations without fear of censorship or retaliation for lawful speech.”

“No public figure, government, political movement, ideology, institution, religion, or powerful organization should be treated as too sacred for satire, criticism, or scrutiny.”

Asked who he wants following Forbidden HQ, the creator did not answer Republicans, conservatives or even MAGA.

“My base is truth seekers,” he said.

He described them as people “that are not married to one idea, and one belief in politics” and are willing to “judge both sides accordingly. Or all sides accordingly.”

“Stepping out of the left-right paradigm, and really putting yourself on the side of the people,” he said.

Forbidden HQ did not initially settle on a name for its breakout character. Users called him “MAGA Chud,” “MAGAtard,” “Goyslob,” “Uncle Ham” and other variations, according to the creator.
