Fall Talks Span Health, Policy, Resilience
Several events feature scholars and authors discussing public health, social policy and personal histories. Alice Miranda Ollstein will discuss how abortion bans have affected health care beyond abortion access, including pregnancy care, contraception, IVF and medical systems. Professor Elizabeth Evans will present research on providing opioid-use-disorder treatment in Massachusetts jails and connecting people with care after release, emphasizing alternatives to punishment and partnerships with affected communities. Dr. Nan Stein will speak in Maine about sexual harassment in schools and approaches to preventing dating violence. Other lectures spotlight Liz Murray’s path from homelessness to Harvard and Kalpana Karunakaran’s account of her grandmother’s writing and resistance.
