Communities Host Events to Help Residents Preserve Family Ancestry Stories
Family History Month is prompting communities to help residents explore and preserve their ancestry through local events and genealogy resources. In Bucks County, a library-hosted meet-and-greet connects visitors with genealogical societies, historical associations and museums. Bloomington-Normal advocates recommend starting with older relatives, family photographs and records, while noting that oral histories can preserve stories and cultural heritage before they are lost. In North Logan, the Logan FamilySearch Center offers ancestry research support and digitization of photographs, slides, tapes and home movies. Other local opportunities include a family-history help session at Powell Library and a Peoria program focused on connecting generations.
