Filipino American festivals planned across US communities
Filipino American Heritage Month celebrations across the country are highlighting culture through food, dance, music and community gatherings. Houston’s October festival plans an open-air marketplace, regional Filipino cuisine, performances spanning traditional dance to hip-hop, and activities including a cooking demonstration and eating contest. In Santa Clarita, the annual festival brought residents together for cultural programming and vendors, including a nonprofit raising funds for education and community projects in the Philippines. Oakland’s FAHM Fest is promoting an evening celebration, while Huntington’s heritage festival is putting Filipino dance, including Tinikling, in the spotlight. In Chicago, a local television segment marked the month with a visit from the co-owners of Filipino American restaurant 7 Wings Co.
