Film initiatives spotlight emerging filmmakers, build community
Across the Midwest, campus communities and professional programs are creating ways for filmmakers and audiences to connect. Kansas City FilmFest International showcased local, student and international work, giving emerging artists a public platform, while Amarillo’s Core filmmakers collective produces projects and trains members for industry opportunities. A new Building Bridges Fellowship will support emerging U.S. Muslim filmmakers with grants, mentorship and professional development focused on stories of identity and belonging. At UMass, a student-led film club builds community through shared screenings and discussions of films beyond the mainstream.
