Fireball Streaks Across Arizona, California Skies
A bright fireball streaked across the sky around 1 a.m. on Oct. 6, with cameras in California’s Big Bear Valley and Arizona—including a webcam near Tucson and a doorbell camera near Scottsdale—capturing the event. Arizona footage showed a vivid green or turquoise flash that appeared to break apart near the horizon; the color may have resulted from magnesium heating as the meteor entered the atmosphere. The object may have been associated with the active Orionid or Southern Taurid meteor showers, though its origin has not been confirmed. No damage or ground impact was reported.
