Former Cardinals Staffers’ Bias Suit Enters NFL Arbitration

Two former Arizona Cardinals employees, former assistant coach Don Shumpert and former executive assistant Kendra Hogue, sued the team, owner Michael Bidwill and other officials, alleging racial discrimination and other workplace-related claims, including retaliation, defamation and constructive termination. The Cardinals have denied the allegations, which have not been proven. A federal judge sent the dispute to arbitration under employment-contract provisions tied to the NFL’s rules; the commissioner’s office will participate in selecting the arbitrator. The case will proceed through arbitration rather than a court trial.
