Full Appeals Court Weighs Wider Trump Contempt Probe
The full U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit heard arguments over whether to end Chief Judge James Boasberg’s contempt inquiry into the Trump administration’s deportation of Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador despite a court order. The Justice Department argued Boasberg exceeded his authority by investigating possible criminal contempt, but several judges appeared skeptical and questioned whether he should be allowed to determine which officials were involved. Judges also raised concern that former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem could be treated as a scapegoat while other potentially responsible officials escape scrutiny. The court did not indicate when it would rule.
