Hadley, Scranton Green Housing Projects Advance
Afree Foundation and partner organizations have broken ground on the $6.2 million Welby Court Community & Resilience Affordable Housing Project in South Scranton, a development planned as two buildings with 12 family apartments. The project aims to offer rent of about $900 a month with utilities and internet included, and is expected to open in February 2028. Its energy-independent design will combine green technologies such as solar power, battery storage and geothermal systems, with proponents saying the approach can reduce residents’ living costs. Plans also include community services such as workforce training, food access and mental and behavioral health support, intended to help families build stability and opportunity.
