Hans Anders suspends smart-glasses sales in Netherlands, Belgium

Hans Anders has suspended sales of Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses in the Netherlands and Belgium, saying it will wait for the public and political debate and any resulting measures before deciding whether to sell them again. Dutch online retailer Wehkamp has also paused sales, as concerns mount that the glasses’ built-in cameras could be used to record people without their knowledge; Dutch authorities are considering further measures, and parliamentarians have called for a ban. Privacy groups have urged Meta and its partner EssilorLuxottica to withdraw the glasses, while hospitals and the Ministry of Defense have reportedly tightened restrictions on their use. Meta says a non-disableable indicator light flashes during recording and that the camera stops working if the light is covered or tampered with.
