Hawaii Schools Near Pre-Pandemic Scores; Math, Attendance Improve
Hawaiʻi public school students are nearing pre-pandemic achievement levels, with 2025-26 math proficiency rising for a fourth straight year to 42.5% and regular attendance reaching 76.8%, up from 66.1% in 2021-22. Language arts proficiency slipped to 53.2% from 53.8% the prior year, while science proficiency held near 44%; on-time graduation rose to 87%, but postsecondary enrollment dipped to 51%. The state remains just below pre-pandemic levels in math and language arts, and officials say faster progress is needed to meet the 2029 targets of 50% in math and 65% in language arts. Among the school-level results highlighted, Honolulu charter school Kulia Academy reported proficiency rates of 87% in math and 84% in language arts, well above statewide averages.
