Hezbollah plans up to $14,000 household aid
Hezbollah announced a relief program for Lebanese families whose primary homes were destroyed, severely damaged or deemed uninhabitable in the war with Israel. Eligible households in Beirut and its southern suburbs may receive up to $14,000, while those elsewhere may receive up to $12,000, divided between furniture replacement and rent and paid in four installments over a year. The program also covers qualifying families displaced from Israeli-occupied areas and nearby locations, but excludes households with a second home, as well as summer homes and abandoned properties; aid levels will depend on assessments of damage. The announcement comes amid scrutiny of how Hezbollah will fund the program, following reports that it received $200 million from Iran that the United States disputed.
