Kalamazoo Promise Plans HBCU Tuition Coverage in 2027

The Kalamazoo Promise will expand its scholarship beginning in fall 2027 to cover tuition and mandatory fees at accredited four-year Historically Black Colleges and Universities nationwide. The change will let eligible Kalamazoo Public Schools graduates use the program outside Michigan for the first time; the scholarship currently supports eligible students at participating Michigan colleges and universities. Promise leaders say the expansion offers students more choice and reduces the tradeoff between financial support and attending a school where they feel represented and connected.
