KELOLAND Heat Sets October Records, Reaches 90s
Unseasonably warm October weather has brought 80- and 90-degree temperatures to parts of KELOLAND, with record highs reported in Sioux Falls and Rapid City. Forecasts called for more warmth, including possible 90s in southwestern South Dakota, alongside a mainly dry week; cooler weather is expected after the weekend. The heat is not unprecedented: historical records show Sioux Falls has reached 90 as late as Oct. 15, while Pierre’s latest recorded 90-degree day came on Oct. 29, and several other area cities have also seen 90-degree temperatures well into October.
