Kern Water Leaders to Receive Annual Awards
California’s Lake Tahoe restoration program is targeting fine sediments and nutrients from roads, runoff and erosion to reverse decades of declining water clarity. In New York City, artist Sarah Cameron Sunde’s Battery Park City project uses public art and a floodgate ritual to prompt community engagement with climate adaptation and resilience infrastructure. Kern County’s water association will honor former Bakersfield water director Kristina Budak for her leadership and former Kern Water Bank Authority general manager Jonathan Parker for his contributions to regional water-storage and groundwater infrastructure. California’s Water Professionals Appreciation Week also recognizes the workers who maintain safe and reliable water, wastewater and recycled-water services amid a hotter, drier climate.
