Lille considers legal action after Santos ruptures ACL
Lille is considering legal action after defender Tiago Santos ruptured the ACL in his right knee during a tackle by Le Havre midfielder Amir Richardson, an injury expected to sideline him for the rest of the season. Lille says the challenge was dangerous, should have resulted in a red card, and has asked French soccer authorities to review the officials’ video-review process and refer the incident to a disciplinary panel. The club also says it may seek compensation and will support Santos in pursuing his rights. Le Havre wished Santos a recovery but argued that, because the referee and video assistant referee did not deem the challenge punishable during the match, retroactive sanctions would fall outside current regulations.
