Mamdani Tells Trump All Journalists Welcome at New York Events
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani met President Donald Trump at Gracie Mansion during the 81st United Nations General Assembly week and told him all journalists would be welcome at their New York events. The White House had barred CNN, MS NOW and Politico from its grounds; the three filed a federal lawsuit alleging viewpoint discrimination and due-process violations. Mamdani later told CNN's Christiane Amanpour: "What I said is that I believe in a free press, and I believe in the importance of engaging in questions from all, no matter whether they are based in a compliment or on a critique." He pledged to engage outlets critical of him, including the New York Post. Trump addressed reporters afterward, saying networks "never boycott me," accusing outlets of "fake news," and dismissing a media boycott. CONTESTED: none found on the core events. Left-rated coverage emphasizes Mamdani challenging the ban; right-rated coverage emphasizes Trump defending the restrictions and mocking boycott talk. Tally: 7 left / 2 center / 12 right.
