Maryland Protest Festival Spotlights Voter Turnout
Bruce Springsteen headlined the inaugural Power to the People festival in Maryland, a one-day protest event organized by Tom Morello to promote solidarity, civic action and voter participation. Springsteen opened with “Streets of Minneapolis,” responding to the killings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti by federal immigration agents, and later performed with Joan Baez, Morello, Dave Matthews and Nathaniel Rateliff. The festival also featured a Freedom Village where attendees could connect with nonprofit groups, while part of ticket proceeds went to voter-engagement organizations VoteRiders and HeadCount. VoteRiders said it would put its share toward helping eligible voters obtain what they need to cast ballots.
