Memphis crash kills five, critically injures two officers
Five people were killed and three others were critically injured in a two-car collision early Sunday at Hickory Hill Road and East Raines Road in Memphis. One vehicle carried six people. Four occupants died at the scene and a fifth died later at the hospital; the sixth was critically injured. The second vehicle was a Memphis Police Department car carrying two officers who were also critically injured while responding to a call for service. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating and reconstructing the crash. The cause has not been reported. What is contested: none identified. KWCH, citing the Memphis Police Department, reported the officers were responding around 12:26 a.m. to a man-down call near Flowering Peach Drive and Mendenhall Road. Tennessee Highway Patrol accounts describe a call for service without that time or specific call type. Rated coverage shows no left-right framing differences on the story.
