Mia Goth Files Divorce, Seeks Daughter Custody
The petition reached Los Angeles County on a Tuesday night. October 6, 2026. Mia Goth, 32, filed for divorce from Shia LaBeouf, 40. She listed July 28, 2025 as the date of separation. The grounds cited were irreconcilable differences. Their daughter Isabel was four years old.
Goth sought primary legal and physical custody of Isabel and requested visitation for LaBeouf. Primary legal custody would place the major decisions about the child—schooling, medical care, residence—under her authority. Primary physical custody would make her home the ordinary place Isabel lived. Visitation would keep LaBeouf inside the arrangement without restoring shared primary time. In the same papers she asked the court to terminate its ability to award spousal support to either party. The language ran both ways. Neither adult would be ordered to support the other. The filing also stated that the exact nature and extent of any separate or community property assets and debts belonging to either party were currently unknown, and asked the court to allow an amended petition once that information was known.
More than fourteen months stood between the day Goth marked as the end and the night the papers were lodged. The filing turned a private break into a public case. A marriage was ending on a form, in a county courthouse.
Goth and LaBeouf had first met in 2012 on the set of Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac: Vol. II. The work put them opposite each other for the first time; the relationship that grew from it stayed mostly private for the next two years. In October 2014 they made their first public red carpet appearance together, at the London premiere of Fury. The photographs fixed them as a couple.
Nine months later the cameras found them under different conditions. In July 2015, outside a hotel in Germany, Goth and LaBeouf were filmed in a heated public argument. LaBeouf told people nearby, “I don't want to touch a woman, I don't want to hit a woman, but I'm being pushed.” He said one more thing that stayed on the record. “If I'd have stayed there, I would have killed her.”
On October 10, 2016, Goth and LaBeouf went through a ceremony in Las Vegas with an Elvis impersonator as officiant. The event was livestreamed. LaBeouf wore a dark suit and white sneakers. Goth wore a white lace wedding dress. Photographs from the night spread across social media in the days that followed, and the images read as a wedding to anyone who saw them. Two days later Clark County of Nevada posted a public note on X. The county’s records showed no marriage license for Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth. Officials described what had taken place as a commitment ceremony. No license had been issued. No marriage had been entered.

LaBeouf did not adopt the county’s wording. He referred to Goth as his wife. On The Ellen DeGeneres Show, speaking about the livestream, he answered in a single clean line. “We're proud of it. It was love,” he said. The night in Las Vegas now existed in two forms at once: a wedding the couple claimed and a commitment ceremony the county certified. Both stayed on the record.
The relationship ended in 2018. LaBeouf entered a relationship with the singer FKA Twigs. What he wrote about himself in an email arrived as two plain sentences. “I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations,” LaBeouf stated. He followed that claim with a wider one that named the pattern rather than a single failure. “I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years.”
In March 2020, Goth and LaBeouf were photographed together in Los Angeles. Both of them were wearing wedding rings. The images suggested they had reconciled. After the 2018 split, and after the period that had included FKA Twigs, the original pair stood again in the same photographs with the marks of commitment restored to their hands.
In early 2022 Goth was photographed in Pasadena with a baby bump. By April she and LaBeouf were on the street together again, this time pushing a stroller. LaBeouf put their daughter into words when she was five months old. “I have a little girl, Isabel; she is five months old and just beginning to develop the last half of her laugh; it's AMAZING,” he wrote. The same passage reached for the larger repair. “Mia, my wife & I have found each other again & are journeying toward a healthy family with love and mutual respect.”
On Jon Bernthal’s REAL ONES podcast he gave Goth a shorter, harder line. Speaking of rehab and a stretch when he said he had not deserved anyone’s presence, he credited her with staying. “She saved my f------ life.”
LaBeouf has been spending time with Nicole Mumphrey. The documents that set the custody request and the support bar were lodged in Los Angeles County on the night of October 6, 2026. The filing is already on the docket.
