Myanmar Airstrike Kills 50, Philippines Offers ASEAN Talks
The Philippines, serving as ASEAN chair, expressed concern over a deadly airstrike in Kyauktaw, Myanmar’s Rakhine state, and offered to facilitate discussions among member states on how to help address the country’s humanitarian crisis. The Sept. 28 strike killed 50 people and wounded dozens, according to local sources; Myanmar’s military has not publicly commented on the attack. Manila said any regional response would follow ASEAN’s consensus-based approach and seek a solution that is “Myanmar-owned and led.”
