Obituaries Honor Five Women’s Community Contributions

Janet Ann Holt Allen, 72, of Leland, North Carolina, died Sept. 23, 2026, after a career spanning education, business and communications; she was remembered as a devoted wife, avid reader and friend. Jane Avia Oxendine Moore, 78, of Wilmington, died Sept. 22 in hospice care after a long illness; she owned Courtyard Hair Designs for 26 years and was cherished by her family, friends and clients. Lila Candice Williams, 69, of Burgaw, died Sept. 25 at home; she served as a social-services caseworker and was an accomplished basket weaver, teacher and devoted wife and mother. Barbara Anne Humbach Brownlee, 82, died peacefully at her home in Hayden, Idaho, on May 19; she and her husband Willis shared 64 years of marriage and a love of outdoor life. Janet Beckett Thomas, 79, of Frankfort, died Oct. 2 surrounded by family; a registered nurse, she was remembered for her commitment to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
