Orange County Schools Plan Early Dismissal Drill
Cedar Rapids schools are reviewing four bell-schedule options ahead of a major 2027–28 reconfiguration, with transportation capacity among the key considerations; district leaders plan to seek staff and community feedback on three refined scenarios in November. In Orange County, Pine Bush and Newburgh schools will dismiss 15 minutes early on Oct. 9 for a countywide emergency early-dismissal drill. Newburgh also has additional calendar changes, including an Oct. 22 student half-day and school closures in October and November. Another district’s Oct. 13–16 conference-week schedule calls for elementary students to dismiss at 11:30 a.m., with elementary buses arriving at stops about 2.5 hours earlier than usual; other listed schools will keep their regular dismissal times.
