Oregon Teen Dies After High School Football Injury

Mason Flores, a 15-year-old Sweet Home High School football player in Oregon, died on his 16th birthday, a week after suffering a severe head injury during a junior varsity game against Marist Catholic. After a seizure and diagnosis of a brain bleed, he underwent surgery, but his family was told he would not recover. His family chose to donate his organs, and teammates and school officials remembered him for his infectious personality and the warmth and joy he brought to others. University of Oregon coach Dan Lanning also offered condolences to Flores’ family and teammates, while the school district made counselors and support staff available to students and staff.
