Pakistan reports fuel aid reaching 9 million amid U.S.-Iran war
Pakistan’s fuel-relief scheme is helping millions of low- and middle-income people cope with higher fuel costs amid the U.S.-Iran war and rising global oil prices. Officials have reported more than 9 million beneficiaries, while another account put the number at 10 million. Motorcycle, rickshaw and Qingqi users can receive 500 rupees in weekly assistance, while owners of cars up to 800cc get a 100-rupee-per-liter discount on up to 10 liters every 10 days. Recent changes removed the minimum fuel-purchase requirement and expanded eligibility for certain smaller vehicles to those up to 20 years old. Free registration and fuel tokens are handled through a digital system linking identity, phone and vehicle records, though some motorists have reported registration problems and uncertainty about resolving them.
