Pennsylvania Senate Passes PFAS Foam Ban Bill
Pennsylvania’s Senate passed a bipartisan bill, 48-1, to phase out firefighting foam containing PFAS, chemicals that persist in the environment and the human body and have been linked to health risks. The measure would restrict the foam’s manufacture, sale and distribution starting in July 2027, prohibit its use beginning in 2028, and require warning labels on protective equipment containing PFAS. Supporters say the phaseout would reduce firefighters’ exposure and help prevent contamination of soil and water; the bill would also let fire companies use state grant funding to dispose of PFAS-containing foam. A companion bill passed the state House unanimously in 2025, and the measure must be reconciled with that version before it can advance to the governor.
