Royal Navy Sailor Charged Over Foreign Spy Allegations

Teddy Young, 24, a serving Royal Navy member, was charged under the National Security Act 2023 with preparing to disclose protected information and with obtaining, copying, recording or retaining protected information intending to benefit a foreign power. Counter Terrorism Policing London arrested him at his home in Bedfordshire on 6 October. The alleged offences occurred between 26 November 2024 and 21 May 2025. He is due at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 8 October 2026. Police said the case is unrelated to the RAF Fairford investigation. Commander Helen Flanagan said: "These are very serious charges against a serving member of the armed forces. We have worked extremely closely with relevant operational colleagues within the Ministry of Defence as our investigation has progressed to ensure appropriate measures could be taken to mitigate any potential risks linked to this matter." She said further speculation should be avoided so the justice process is not impeded. Portsmouth News reported Young was previously arrested in Hampshire last year. CONTESTED: No disputes among outlets on the charges, dates or arrest. Only Portsmouth News reports the earlier Hampshire arrest.
