Wisconsin, Fargo-Moorhead Mark Indigenous Peoples’ Day
Communities across Wisconsin and the Fargo-Moorhead area marked Indigenous Peoples’ Day with celebrations, public statements and recognition of Indigenous contributions. Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers highlighted the state’s 12 Native Nations and his administration’s work with tribes on sovereignty, language preservation, food access, clean energy, wild rice stewardship and other shared priorities. Dane County leaders emphasized the county’s relationship with the Ho-Chunk Nation and said they plan to protect and return 165 acres of ancestral land to the Nation. In Fargo, Georgianna Warren received the Gladys Ray Indigenous Peoples Day Award for supporting people affected by homelessness and addiction, and a powwow was held in Moorhead.
