Prostate Screening Campaigns Promote Early Detection
Cancer organizations in Texas, Uganda and Ghana are expanding prostate cancer screening and awareness efforts to encourage early detection. In Amarillo, the Harrington Cancer and Health Foundation is offering free blood-test screenings on Oct. 15 to men ages 45–75, with a chance to win $1,000 and a complimentary beer. In Uganda, Rays of Hope Hospice Jinja aims to screen 45,000 men by bringing services to busy public places and widening its annual cancer campaign to include men. Ghana’s University of Ghana Medical Centre is promoting routine prostate assessments and urging men, families and communities to encourage timely medical care, rather than waiting for symptoms to worsen.
