Public safety workers honored across regions

Public safety and fire departments in several communities have recognized personnel and residents for service, courage and dedication. In Champaign, Grant Hale was named Firefighter of the Year, Kyle Keefer Engineer of the Year and Andrew Schneman Officer of the Year; three others received Medals of Valor, with the department noting that firefighters’ everyday lifesaving work often extends beyond fires. Saginaw Township also honored firefighters, residents and local businesses, naming Joel Bolzman Firefighter of the Year. In Norfolk, 38 people received long-service awards, while other honors recognized staff contributions to wellbeing and a local fire cadet. Central Minnesota’s Public Safety Foundation announced recipients of its 2026 Shields & Stars awards and also recognized additional individual and team nominees.
